Hello and welcome to my web page! I am a behavior analyst (BCBA) working in the Chester Upland School District. My work is primarily at Chester High School and STEM. I have been a BCBA since 2003. I have experience working with students of all ages in public schools, private schools, cyber schools, the community and the students' homes.

These are unprecedented times and I am here to support the students, parents, and teachers as we face the challenges of online learning together.

What is a BCBA? ABA? FBA? PBSP?

That’s a lot of acronyms! BCBA stands for Board Certified Behavior Analyst. BCBAs utilize the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to improve teaching and increase learning across all content areas, grade levels, and student populations. ABA provides a scientific approach to designing, implementing, and evaluating instruction based on analyzing interactions between what the teacher does and student learning. Behavioral strategies can be used to teach academics, social, vocational, and daily living skills, and to improve entire systems of schooling. If an individual student is exhibiting behavior that is interfering with his/her learning or the learning of peers, a BCBA can conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). An FBA is a process that identifies specific target behavior, the purpose of the behavior, and what factors maintain the behavior that is interfering with the student's educational progress. Once the FBA is complete, a Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP) can be created to help improve the target behavior and increase educational success. [A PBSP can also be referred to as a BSP (behavior support plan) or BIP (behavior intervention plan)].
