Greetings 8th graders and families!
My name is Mr. Colin Hartwick, and I am excited to be your math teacher this coming year. Starting online will be strange, but I am looking forward to tackling all the challenges we will face. This is my first year at Toby Farms. I have spent the last three years teaching middle school math in Philadelphia. Before that, I graduated from Cairn University with a degree in Education, Secondary Mathematics, holding a PA certification in 7-12th Mathematics.
My emphasis in teaching math is numeracy. Everyone knows what literacy is, the ability to read and write. Numeracy is one’s ability to understand and manipulate numbers. So while it’s true that students might not “use” what they learn in class in their adult life, they are developing a comfort with numbers that will help them succeed. I love teaching students to be numerate and welcome any questions you might have about mathematics in 8th grade!
Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m eager to start this year at Toby Farms!
