JUAN R. BAUGHN, Ed.D
SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
Dr. Juan Baughn is a prominent educator who is no stranger to the Chester Upland School District; earlier in his career, he coached the Chester Upland basketball and cross-country teams and also held several administrative posts. He served as interim superintendent from January 2017 throughout the end of the 2016/2017 school year and was appointed to the permanent position of Superintendent of Schools in July 2017.
In addition to his time at Chester Upland, Dr. Baughn has held teaching and administrative positions at a variety of schools. He is a graduate of Temple University's Graduate School of Education and Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and has been a leader in Pennsylvania education for five decades.
Dr. Baughn's impressive background includes experience as the special assistant to the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education from 2005 to 2010; assistant superintendent of high schools in the District of Columbia Public Schools, Washington DC in 2004; high school and elementary school principal at multiple school districts in eastern Pennsylvania; lecturer at Lehigh University's College of Education from 1996 to 2001; and adjunct professorship at Temple University from 1986 to 1994.
Dr. Baughn has also work with Chester Upland School District in many capacities throughout his school career. In addition to coaching basketball and cross-country, he also served as Dean of Students and as the 1998-1999 Interim Superintendent. Since 2008, he's been a member of the faculty at the National Institute of School Leadership where he is responsible for training principals and national school leaders. He joined the resident master faculty in 2015.
