Edgmont Scholars Academy

For the Betterment of our Students

  • Dr. Percell Whittaker

    Dear Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the 2022-2023 school year! I’m excited to welcome students back into our building. Although many changes have occurred over the summer, we will continue to provide our students with a quality education that is student-centered and focuses on the whole child.  We also will continue to develop our students' social-emotional development through Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and other initiatives.  Our theme for this year is “Together We are One”.   My mission as the new principal of Edgmont Scholars Academy is to establish a collaborative working relationship with the community and staff in order to establish a shared vision for student achievement and a strategic plan that guides this vision.

Communication and family engagement are extremely important to us. Our school will communicate with families by way of an electronic newsletter sent out each Friday where you’ll find pertinent information related to our educational program. Teachers also use ClassTag/Class Dojo to post information about classwork, homework, projects or to send a quick reminder. Important information can be found on the Chester Upland School District’s website at www.chesteruplandsd.org.  The district uses robocalls to remind families of early dismissals and emergency school closings. It's vital to the safety of your child that we have updated home addresses, email addresses and phone numbers for parents and emergency contacts. If you need to update your contact information with us, please call our administrative assistant, Mr. Taheem Murray, at 484-658-3551 or email him at tmurray@chesteruplandsd.org.

The first day of school for students is Monday, August 29, 2022.  Student hours are 8:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. The doors will open at 8:40 a.m. for breakfast. Dismissal procedures that will be shared with you begin at approximately 3:35 p.m. Pick up will occur in a car loop in the parking lot. Cones, signs and staff members will be outside to assist. Students will be escorted to their car.

I am delighted to serve as principal of  Edgmont Scholars Academy and excited to serve the community.   We can achieve excellence for our students with your support this school year and I look forward to meeting you in the near future!

Feel free to contact me at pwhittaker@chesteruplansd.org or 484-546-8983.  Again, welcome back! I look forward to a great year together.
