Tanya Murgia's Classroom

  • I have been teaching for 20 years in both public and private schools in PA. My experience has been in all grades from Pre-K-8th in all subject areas. This is my 4th year serving the Chester Upland School District. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Elementary Education where I was nominated "Student Teacher of the Year". A few credits shy of a Master of Education degree from Arcadia University in Language Arts Education,  I have a passion for writing and Writer's Workshop and I have lead professional development in this area in several area school districts. I hope to be a published author myself some day. My deep love for children's literature means I often use Mentor Texts in my teaching to model for my students what professional writers and good readers do.

Personally, I am married with 4 children and a cat. I volunteer as a youth group leader in my church and a parent liason in my son's school. I can also speak Spanish. Originally from Philadelphia, I grew up with 6 siblings. In my free time, I enjoy watching my children compete in various sports and traveling. Spending time in the great outdoors is my favorite pastime, particularly if I can be near the water. But mostly, I love being a lifelong learner and improving my craft as a teacher.  I am looking forward to a great school year!
