CHESTER, PA - May 1 2024 - The Chester Upland School District (CUSD), in partnership with Parent University, was excited to welcome CUSD students and their family members at a free “Painting With a Twist” event held at The Boys and Girls Club of Chester on April 30.
The event was open to all CUSD families and included refreshments.
Deneen Mosley, a Parent University Volunteer and event organizer, reflected on the event. "'Painting With a Twist' was a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and unleash their creativity,” said Mosley. “It's something that Parent University and CUSD are proud to offer and one of many initiatives to come to encourage community engagement.”
Interim Superintendent of Schools, Latrice N. Mumin, Ed. D., MBA, emphasized the importance of partnerships like these. “Collaborations with organizations like Parent University are critical to our district,” said Mumin. “Events such as the 'Painting With a Twist' not only provide enriching experiences for our families but also strengthen the bond between our school community and the wider community.”
Sade Woodson, a parent who attended the event with her son, shared her thoughts on the afternoon. “We had a great time at the 'Painting With a Twist' event,” said Woodson. “It was a fantastic way to bond and create something beautiful together.”
Thanks to artist Asia Gibson, participants were provided with sketches of a flower arrangement in a trumpet-shaped bouquet. With guidance from Gibson, scholars and their families and several Parent University volunteers were able to showcase their creativity and paint their own interpretations of the beautiful design.
CUSD Board Director and Parent University volunteer Tasliym Morales generously contributed four tickets to the district’s upcoming staff and student Showcase on May 2, which were raffled off to guests at the “Painting With a Twist” event.
