    Program Information

Chester Upland School District's Cosmetology Program prepares students with skills necessary to complete the Pennsylvania State Exam. The areas of study are Professional Image, Facials, Hairstyling, Hair Cutting, Hair Coloring, Anatomy and Physiology, Make-up, Massage etc. The technical skills and occupational training are the latest and most innovative to the industry. With 900 hours completed, students with a diploma become eligible to take the Pennsylvania Cosmetology Exam. Passing students will receive a temporary license from the state allowing them to work while completing the remaining balance of the 1,250 hours necessary for a permanent Cosmetology License.

Chester High School's Cosmetology Department has partnered with professionals in the industry to offer opportunities beyond the classroom. These partnerships will give students access to live demonstrations, job shadowing opportunities and workshops with hands-on training relative to current industry demands. Students are trained to work in a salon environment while interacting with peers and salon patrons which cultivates effective communication skills necessary for stylist success. All student work is facilitated under the supervision of a licensed teacher.

Career and Technical Student Organization (SkillsUSA)

Students in the Cosmetology program have the opportunity to join the Career and Technical Student Organization "SkillsUSA," a student organization that provides opportunities to network with other students in their occupational area. It also gives students an opportunity to demonstrate skills learned in the classroom in a competitive event scenario. Students who join can build leadership qualities and networking skills while in SkillsUSA. By being a member, students can qualify and apply for scholarships that are offered through the organization.
